School governors

We are in discussion with two groups of local authorities on providing an information and guidance service for school governors.

School governors provide an essential service as the ‘critical friends’ of educational establishments. However, keeping up-to-date on all the latest requirements for schools is a big task.

This service will significantly ease the load upon a portion of England’s 350,000 governors, the largest group of voluntary workers in the country.

Children’s services

We have been working with one of the UK’s leading local government think tanks to develop a support service for the children’s workforce.

The service will provide expert answers to questions on all aspects of provision for children and young people and a comprehensive online resource offering instant help.

There is a clear requirement for this service, given the issues identified in the report from the Social Work Task Force published last December, such as the need to enable social workers to continuously develop their skills.

It will ensure that children’s social workers – and all partners involved in delivering the Every Child Matters agenda – can quickly access the information, guidance and case studies they need, without spending hours searching for them.

Local authorities that would like to get involved, or find out more about the project, should contact managing director, professional support services Fergal Roche:
