Our experts – The Key

Our specialists are experts in their field, be it schools or children’s services. We look for talented, innovative, bright, enthusiastic people who can use their initiative.

Fe McKerrell, curriculum and learning researcher

Fe is The Key’s senior researcher for curriculum and learning. She holds a BA (Hons) in Anthropology, an MA in Museum Studies and a PGCE from the University of Southampton. She has seven and a half years’ teaching experience, four in reception and three and a half in Year One. During this time she held the posts of co-ordinator for EYFS and Key Stage One, English, and Maths.

Fe also spent two and half years as a museum education officer, devising and delivering education programmes for schools at the National History Museum, the V&A and Wandsworth Museum.

She is the person responsible for grading titles at Usborne Children's Books and also took part in the consultation on the new primary curriculum.

In her spare time, Fe enjoys training for and running marathons.

Alka Pillai, community cohesion researcher

Alka Pillai is a senior researcher at The Key. She graduated with an honours degree in Politics from the University of Delhi, and went on to pursue a postgraduate degree in Politics and an M.Phil in International Diplomacy.

Alka taught Politics to students aged 16-18 in Delhi before moving to the UK to undertake policy research in education.
