Our experts – The Key


Our specialists are experts in their field, be it schools or children’s services. We look for talented, innovative, bright, enthusiastic people who can use their initiative.

Fe McKerrell, curriculum and learning researcher

Fe is The Key’s senior researcher for curriculum and learning. She holds a BA (Hons) in Anthropology, an MA in Museum Studies and a PGCE from the University of Southampton. She has seven and a half years’ teaching experience, four in reception and three and a half in Year One. During this time she held the posts of co-ordinator for EYFS and Key Stage One, English, and Maths.

Fe also spent two and half years as a museum education officer, devising and delivering education programmes for schools at the National History Museum, the V&A and Wandsworth Museum.

She is the person responsible for grading titles at Usborne Children's Books and also took part in the consultation on the new primary curriculum.

Tom Ryan, quality assurance manager

Tom is a quality assurance manager at The Key. His experience in the education sector has included working with two government departments to develop policy, and producing national guidance for teachers on education and sustainable development.

Tom has extensive experience of working in schools, has taught English in the UK and abroad, and has managed programmes focusing on environmental education and volunteering by young people.

He has a degree in manufacturing engineering from Nottingham University and is currently studying for an MSc in public policy at University College London.
