While some music fans seem to rate sleeping in puddles as highly as they do listening to bands, others regard camping in a muddy field as a reason to give Glastonbury and other festivals a miss.
However, some members of Ten Lifestyle Concierge are choosing glamorous camping (‘glamping’) options and plan to enjoy the UK’s best music festivals from the cleanliness of their own temporary luxury pad.
‘Ten can take care of the groundwork, whether you want to book into a high-end, hotel-style campsite, or just want a comprehensive list of what to pack,” says Lydia Patchett, one of Ten’s travel experts.
‘Several of the glamping companies move from event to event along the festival circuit,’ Lydia says.
Options for mud-shy festival-goers range from a pre-erected tent in a private camping area, to a full-on five-star experience in a luxury yurt.
‘We have good relationships with all the glamping suppliers,’ says Lydia. ‘So far this year we’ve handled several enquiries from members wanting the whole VIP camping experience at Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds, V and Wireless. By far the most popular festival is Glastonbury, followed by V.’
A couple of suppliers, such as Tangerine Fields and Myhab, offer campers access to a private camping area, which is much less densely populated than the general camping areas. The loos and showers are kept in pristine condition too.
The next step up from a tent is a hard shell construction such as the ones from Myhab, or the garden shed-style chalets from Podpad. These offer the added advantages of sleeping platforms, lockers, and electric lighting.
However, for the ultimate festival luxury experience – and at prices starting from £5,000 – you can experience life as a Mongolian prince or princess in a yurt, or take a break in a traditional Indian hunting tent complete with sheepskin floor coverings, duck down duvets and room service at Camp Kerala adjacent to Glastonbury festival.
